Remember the grip safety, if not depressed, will keep an XD locked shut. Hit it several times to free the stuck cartridge from the gun. It’s pretty obvious why the feed ramp needs to be a smooth, polished surface. The nose of the bullet must slide over and through this concave surface to enter the chamber.
