The only accurate way to check the oil is to start the engine and let it idle for 3 minutes then let it sit off for 3 minutes. If it sits more than 3 minutes oil will settle into the case and it will read low. Any other procedure will give you an inaccurate reading. 2 1/2 quarts is way too much.
