Even though his gut might have been to take the chancellor's offer, he couldn't pass up the opportunity to assassinate the leader of the Republic. Talk about a resume booster. Plus, he'd get in good with the upper echelons of the Empire, and all the lucrative and exclusive contracts that such connections would entail.
